GAINESVILLE, Fla. – For the third year in a row, the 2023 Florida High School Flag Football State Championships will return to
Mandarin High School in Jacksonville this weekend. Built within a final four style format, this two-day championship event will consist of both semifinal and championship title games in both classifications. To qualify for their respective state championship games on Saturday, teams will compete in a semifinal matchup on Friday.
Of the weekend’s competing teams, five of the eight teams present are making a repeat appearance in the championship event. In Class 2A, reigning champion Western (Davie) will be seeking their second title but will have to get past perennial powers Alonso (Tampa) and Seminole Ridge (Westlake) who will be seeking their third and sixth overall championships respectively. Fleming Island, while not new to the state championship event, is seeking their first overall title. In Class 1A, Robinson (Tampa) looks to further cement themselves in the
record books as they seek their state leading eighth consecutive and eighth overall championship, a streak that began in 2016 when the sport first split into two classifications (
2020 event was cancelled due to the pandemic). Standing in their way will be perennial contenders Miami Edison and Choctawhatchee (Fort Walton Beach), as each return to Jacksonville hoping to capture their first flag football championship in school history. Mainland (Daytona Beach), who will take on Robinson first in the semifinal round, is also seeking their first flag football championship.
Tickets are currently on sale, with no onsite ticket sales taking place. All tickets are available through
