With over 25 years of coaching experience, Alex Bennett has collected 11 FHSAA Water Polo State Championships accompanied by 6 State Runner-up titles and does not seem to be slowing down any time soon.

Bennett began his high school coaching career at Gulliver Preparatory School in 1997, where he quickly saw success. His girls’ water polo teams won eight consecutive State Championships, two State Runner-up titles, and had a 225-0-win streak. While Bennett’s boys’ teams earned one State Championship and two State Runner-up awards.  In 2009, Bennett took the head coach position at Lake Nona High School. Here he has seen two girls water polo State Championships, two girls State Runner-up titles, and numerous district championships for both boys and girls, despite not having a suitable water polo pool on campus.

Bennett has been named Coach of the Year several times by the Florida Dairy Farmers, Orlando Sentinel, Miami Herald, and USA Water Polo. He currently serves on the NFHS and FHSAA Water Polo Advisory Committees and has had the pleasure of seeing several of his student-athletes receive athletic scholarships.

“The Florida High School Athletic Hall of Fame is composed of prestigious individuals who have elevated high school athletic programs sponsored by the Association and its member schools.” Many of Bennett’s peers believe this statement from the FHSAA regarding the Hall of Fame is an exact representation of the coach.
