Larry Chatmon Little was born in Groveland, Georgia on November 2, 1945. Little ended up growing up in Miami, Florida where he attended Booker T. Washington Senior High School. Little also played football for Booker T. Washington. Little became one of the best two-way linemen in Booker T. Washington Senior High School’s history. Little decided to attend Bethune-Cookman College, a historically Black university from 1964-1967. Little played on both sides of the ball as an offensive lineman and defensive lineman for the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats. With Little wreaking havoc on both offense and defense, the Wildcats never had a losing season with him on the roster. Little was a three-time All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) selection. In his final year with the Wildcats Little earned MVP, All-Conference and Ebony Press-All American honors.

In 1967, Little went undrafted, however he eventually signed as a free agent with the American Football League’s San Diego Chargers. His legendary pro football career began once he was later traded to the Miami Dolphins in 1969. Little helped the Miami Dolphins become one of the NFL’s most dominant teams in the 1970s. It was not long before Little was being praised as one of the National Football League’s premier offensive linemen. The Dolphins were known for their punishing rushing attack and as a guard, Little was one of the biggest reasons the Dolphins rushing attack had success. Little played on two Super Bowl winning teams under legendary head coach Don Shula, the NFL’s all-time winningest coach. Little was one of the key pieces of the Miami Dolphins’ historic undefeated 1972 NFL season.

Following the 1980 NFL Season, Little retired from pro football. He served as head football coach at his alma mater, Bethune Cookman University from 1983 to 1991 and as head coach at North Carolina Central University from 1993 to 1998.

Little was named First-Team All-Pro five times from 1969 to 1975. He was also named second-team All-NFL in 1978 and All-AFC five times. With his 11-season tenure with the Miami Dolphins he was selected to play in five Pro Bowls (1970, 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1975). Little was also named the NFL Players Association’s AFC Offensive Lineman of the year three times. Little was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1993, he was selected to the NFL’s 1970s All-Decade Team, and he is a member of the Miami Dolphins Honor Roll. Little was also inducted into Bethune-Cookman University’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000.
