Frankie Shannon Rolle was born in Jacksonville, Florida on November 25, 1924. She lived her life in service to God and humanity. Playing on the varsity basketball team at Stanton High School, she helped them to win many championships.

Rolle went on to earn her undergraduate degree in physical education in 1946 from Florida A&M College (FAMC) in Tallahassee, Florida. While at FAMC she served as captain on the school’s 1943 undefeated women's basketball team and became the fourth woman inducted into the FAMU’S Sports Hall of Fame in 1979. She pursued her graduate studies at Indiana University where she earned a master’s degree in Guidance Counseling and School Administration, at a time when southern universities would not admit blacks into graduate school.

For 42 years Rolle served as an educator at her beloved George Washington Carver School, which was a K-12 segregated black school. She worked as a physical education teacher and in later years as a counselor. Rolle was also a girls basketball, cheerleader, and track coach.

George Washington Carver School is now a middle school and in 1987, upon her retirement, the school’s gymnasium was named in her honor. As part of the school's 60th year anniversary, a Frankie S. Rolle Scholarship was established for students who overcame obstacles. As a testament to her untiring work, the Miami-Dade County Social Services Building was renamed the Frankie Shannon Rolle Neighborhood Center.

Rolle joined in marriage to the late William “Billy” Rolle in 1951 and together they made a difference in the lives of people. They set an example for their children to follow.

Rolle’s life journey included a myriad of community and civic involvement and service which has permeated her life.  She was a member of the Miami Sports and Exhibition Authority on the Coconut Grove Chamber of Commerce Advisory Board, the Helen B. Bentley Family Health Center Board of Directors, the Miami/Bahamas Goombay Festival in Coconut Grove Inc., The Coconut Grove Negro and Women’s Club, Inc., and a member of the FAMU Alumni Association. Rolle was one of the original organizers of the Bahamas Goombay Festival in Coconut Grove and she served as co-chair of the 50th Orange Blossom Classic. She was also a life member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. She served as president of the FAMU Alumni Association Miami chapter president from 1970-72 and she was president of the Miami Gold Coast chapter from 1982-83.

Rolle is known to have enriched the lives of all those she met.  Rolle passed away on February 10, 2014, at the age of 89. She is survived by her children William Billy Rolle (Loretta), Melodie Rolle-Mitchell, Zachary Rolle-Mitchell, Jeanette Rolle Mitchell Bellinger (Rodney), 22 grandchildren, and a sister, Sophia White of Jacksonville.
