GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Nicholas Santana, current FHSAA
Student Athlete-Advisory Committee (SAAC) member from Orange Park High School in Administrative Section 1, recently competed at the Northeast Florida Regional Special Olympics Swim Meet held at the Florida Aquatics Swimming & Training (FAST) Facility in Ocala.
Proudly representing his school, Clay County and current members of the SAAC committee in the event, Nicholas' sportsmanship was widely praised by Special Olympics coaches, officials, parents, and fellow swimmers throughout. All of whom greatly appreciated his positive attitude and valuable contributions to the team - making it about more than just the results of the competition.
However, Nicholas shined competitively as well, competing in the 100-Yard Individual Medley, the 50-Yard Freestyle, and took the Backstroke leg of the 200-Yard Medley Relay, claiming Gold in all three (3) disciplines. His accomplishments each earned him the title of Regional Champion. Nicholas now awaits the opportunity to compete in the Special Olympics Florida State Swimming Competition, being held in Sebastian at the end of September.
The FHSAA and its member schools wish him the best of luck as he continues to uphold the values of sportsmanship in competition.
