GAINESVILLE, Fla. – For the first time in fifty years, the best high school basketball teams across the state of Florida will journey to the Bold City of Jacksonville in hopes of claiming a high school basketball state championship. In partnership with both the
University of North Florida Athletics Department and the
Jacksonville Sports Foundation, the 2026 Florida High School Basketball State Championships will continue this week at
CSI Companies Court at UNF Arena. This second week of action will consist of Classes 1A & 2A.
Built within a final four style format within each classification, the championship event will consist of semifinal games on Thursday, March 5th in Class1A, and Friday March 6th in Class 2A, followed by Championship title games for both classes on Saturday, March 7
th. Each of the teams advancing to this week’s games did so after winning their respective Region over the past two weeks.
For this week’s competing teams, there will be three returning state champions from last year, with the possibility of multiple rematches taking place throughout the weekend. On the girls side, we will begin with a rematch of last year’s Class 1A State Championship game as Grandview Prep (Boca Raton) seeks their school’s fourth overall state championship. They will face off in a Semifinal against last year’s runner-up, North Florida Educational (Jacksonville) who remain in search of their school’s first overall title. In Class 2A, Miami Country Day will seek their 11
th overall state championship by way of a fourth in a row. It should be noted, all of the Spartans championships have come since 2014. On the boys side, Sagemont (Weston) of Class 1A has also been a mainstay in the championship event over the past decade, currently sitting on five overall titles in school history. The Lions could see Victory Christian (Lakeland) in a 2025 title game rematch on Saturday if both teams advance through their Semifinal games Friday. In Class 2A, while there is no defending champion remaining, Santa Fe Catholic (Lakeland) will see to avenge last year’s runner-up finish to claim the school’s first ever basketball state championship.
