Florida Statutes determines where a student may participate in interscholastic athletics.
In accordance with Florida Statute, a student may participate for the school at which he/she attends.
If the school at which the student attends does not offer a sport, or the student is a home education or Personalized Education Program (PEP) student, he/she may seek participation at one of the following:
- The home education cooperative to which the student belongs (home education and PEP students).
- Any public school, including a charter or lab school, in the county in which the student resides or may develop an agreement with a private school in the county in which the student resides.
- If no public school, including a charter or lab school, in the county in which the student resides offers the sport, and an agreement cannot be reached with a private school in the county in which the student resides, only then may the student participate at a public school, including a charter or lab school, in a county adjacent to the county in which the student resides or may develop an agreement with a private school in a county adjacent to the county in which the student resides.
- If the student has exhausted all options above and still does not have an opportunity to participate in the sport, the student may appeal to the Executive Director.
EXEMPTION: Students who participated at a school in an adjacent county during the 2025-26 school year, will be permitted to continue participation at that school as a non-traditional student through graduation.
All students must provide a signed and completed EL1 (if applicable), EL2, and EL3 Form.
If the student is participating at a school other than the one he/she attends, they will also need the following:
- Home Education Students – GA4, EL7, and EL7V
- Personalized Education Program (PEP) Students – GA4 and EL15
- Charter, Private, FLVS, Alternative, and Traditional Public School Students – GA4, EL16, and EL16V
