SESSION SPEAKERS AND DESCRIPTIONS
Keynote Address 1: 10 Keys to College Success – Hygens Succes. As a first-generation college student with immigrant parents, Hygens Succes understands the struggles and hardships one can encounter as a college grad. In his book, “10 Keys to College Success”, he shares his college journey from his school choice to even purchasing textbooks. This book is filled with gems of lessons learned, mistakes, and Hygens’ own college success stories. As a bonus, each key also includes helpful tips and suggestions to help alleviate potential questions for college grads as he provides a solution. Each of the 10 keys is an impactful story to help others learn from his experiences. “10 Keys to College Success” will create needed conversation points for high school students to consider before navigating college.
Keynote Address 2: Role of a Captain – Buck Martinez and Student ACES. Following a successful 30+ year career in the energy industry, Buck Martinez decided it was time to do what he was truly passionate about – mentoring others. In 2013, in partnership with his daughter, he founded Student ACES, Inc., a 501c3 non-profit organization with the mission to inspire and develop high school student athletes to become men and women of character, honor and integrity. What started with just 32 students has grown to impact the lives of more than 50,000 students throughout South Florida in under 10 years. Buck is passionate about investing in our youth and works countless hours serving in the capacity of teacher, mentor and coach. His passion has not only impacted the lives of students, but executives as well as he inspires fellow community leaders across various industries, from construction to sports and everything in between, as a leadership coach and author of seven books.
Keynote Address 3: Student-Athlete Mental Health – Misty Buck. Misty Buck is an author, podcast host, speaker, and mindset coach. She is known for her work as a mental conditioning expert helping athletes and high-achievers transform their inner game. Inspired by her journey with mental health struggles, Misty’s goal is to teach others how to achieve and maintain mental peace. Her notable works include her books
Athlete Mental Health Playbook and
Athlete Branding Blueprint. She is also a contributor to the Hall of Fame Health, an affiliate of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Misty serves on the board of the Kennedy Kids Foundation, an organization in Miami that works to prevent teen suicide. She is also the co-host of Bailey and Buck Unplugged, which dives deep into the mental well-being of celebrities, athletes, and public figures, uncovering the stories behind their successes and struggles. Her third book,
Mindset Champion, is set to be published later this year.
Closing Session: Student-Athlete Panel: Hot Topics. A roundtable discussion where students from across the state can learn about what’s trending within the Florida High School Athletic Association from the point of view from FHSAA administration and members of the student advisory committee.
