An international student is any foreign-born student in the United States that is studying for credit as either a youth exchange student, immigrant, or other international student on a dependent form of a US Visa. Per FHSAA guidelines, International students are offered the opportunity to participate in athletics, should they meet the standards set forth in Policy 17.
A youth exchange student is any student studying in the United States for credit on an F1 or J1 Visa.
Where can a Youth Exchange Student participate?
There are two types of Youth Exchange Students:
- J1 Visa: An approved Exchange Agency will write a DS-2019 document for the student’s attendance at a specific school for one year only.
- F1 Visa: These students will have an I-20 document written by a CSIET approved school or school district, allowing them to study at that specific school.
Youth Exchange Students are not permitted to participate as Home Education students.
