Which events require FHSAA sanctioning?

Per FHSAA Policy 7.1.1, a sanctioned event is a preseason jamboree game, preseason classic game or preseason tournament, in the sports of baseball, basketball, cross country, football, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, track & field, girls volleyball, boys weightlifting and wrestling, or spring football jamboree or spring football classic, football bowl game, third party hosted games or tournaments (i.e. KSA Events, ESPN, Paragon Sports, etc.) and nationally televised events during pre or post season in any sport.

What defines a "Host" of an event?

Per FHSAA Policy 7.1.2.1, a member school is considered a host when it organizes, produces and manages the event on campus or through rights to use an off campus facility and provides all event staff, officials, ticket sales, insurance, concessions and parking. In addition, the Host would retain all event revenue. 

Note: Colleges, Universities, and/or Third Party entities, including private corporations and non-profit organizations requesting to host events, must enter into a contract directly with the FHSAA for sanction approval. Please see Third Party Events. 

What are the steps to host an FHSAA sanctioned event?

  1. Only FHSAA member schools or third party sponsors are allowed to host FHSAA sanctioned events
  2. Member schools must complete the Sanction Form through Home Campus (this includes football)
  3. Verify if the event requires an NFHS sanction approval

  4. Forms are due the day before the first day of the event
Which events require NFHS sanctioning?
  1. Any interstate or international event involving two (2) or more schools which is co-sponsored by or titled in the name of an organization outside the school community (e.g., a college/university, a theme park, an athletic shoe/apparel company)
  2. Events in non-bordering states if more than five (5) or more states are involved
  3. Events in non-bordering states if more than eight (8) schools are involved
  4. Any event involving two (2) or more schools that involves a team from a foreign country. The host school should complete the international sanction application. This would include any event(s) that involves international traveling teams that play in multiple games in multiple states. (The exceptions to this rule are Canada and Mexico which are considered "bordering states.")
How does NFHS event registration/sanctioning work?

Registration can be completed online at NFHS.org. The event registration and approval process generally follows these steps:
  1. The Event Manager creates the event and uploads an initial list of invited schools.
  2. The hosting State Association submits their approval for the event.
  3. The Event Manager pays any fees.
  4. The invited State Associations submit their approval for the event.
    • The Event Manager coordinates with the State Associations to meet any requirements along with submitting updated and final lists of invited schools.
  5. After all State Associations have approved the event, the NFHS submits their approval.
What are the fees to sanction an FHSAA event for member schools?

A non-refundable administrative fee shall be assessed each school making an application on the Sanction Form in Home Campus for approval in the following sports:

How is FHSAA sanction payment made?

Once the sanction application is processed and approved, the member school will be invoiced for payment. Payment may only be made by the member school.
