To be held at Gene Cox Stadium in Tallahassee, Dec. 8-10

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The annual FHSAA Drive to December will culminate this weekend for Classes 1M, 1R, 1S & 2S at Gene Cox Stadium. Partnering with Visit Tallahassee and Leon County Schools, four Florida High School Football State Champions will be crowned in the state capital of Tallahassee. There are many event notables heading into this weekend’s slate of games.  The first matchup in Class 1M on Thursday will include perennial power Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood), as they attempt to claw their way up the state’s overall leaderboard in championships. The Lions currently sit at six state championships overall and will be seeking their seventh title which would move them into a tie for fifth place in Florida football history. Standing in their way will be Clearwater Central Catholic, who will seeking its school’s first ever football state championship.

The second matchup of the weekend in Class 2S on Friday will have local power Florida High (Tallahassee) taking on last year’s runner-up in Class 4A Cocoa. The Seminoles are making their first title game appearance since 2019 when they finished runner-up to Chaminade-Madonna. A near constant in title games of late, the Tigers of Cocoa will be seeking their fifth championship overall, but first since 2016.

The third matchup of the week on Saturday afternoon, fans will see First Baptist (Naples) and Trinity Catholic (Ocala) square off in Class 1S. Trinity Catholic will attempt to claim their third overall title in school history, first since 2010, while First Baptist will be seeking their school’s first ever football title.

The final matchup of the weekend In Class 1R, pits undefeated opponents Northview (Century) vs. Hawthorne on Saturday evening. The Hornets out of Hawthorne have made the title game each of the last three years and will be hoping to break through with their first state championship. Northview’s own championship came back in 2012.
