GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In partnership with the City of DeLand, the 2022 Florida High School Soccer State Championships will take place this week at Spec Martin Stadium. This year marks the sixth consecutive year that the City of DeLand plays host to the State Championship Event.  

Structured as a final only, this four-day championship event will consist of state title matches over six classifications (2A-7A) in both genders. All teams qualified for the event after surviving their state semifinal matchups this past weekend. Girls will take to the pitch on Wednesday and Friday, and the boys will compete on Thursday and Saturday.

Of the week’s competing teams, many are back to defend their 2021 state championships. On the boy’s side, four schools – Doral Academy, Arnold (Panama City Beach), Belen Jesuit (Miami), and Canterbury (Fort Myers) are each back to replicate their 2021 championship success. However, unlike the other three, Arnold will be the only one vying for a title in a new classification after moving up to Class 5A this season. For the girls, while there will be many familiar teams in DeLand with a strong history of championship success, only Lakeland Christian and St. Johns Country Day (Orange Park) are returning in 2021 title defense. Both schools will face off against new opponents.
