GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The 2023 Florida High School Swimming & Diving State Championships will get underway this weekend with classifications 1A & 2A. For the first time in the event’s history, Ocala’s
Florida Aquatics Swimming & Training Center (FAST) will serve as the host location, with the event being made possible due to the ongoing partnership of the
Ocala/Marion County Visitors and Convention Bureau (OMCVB). Class 2A will kick this year’s event off on Friday, November 3
rd, and Class 1A will compete on Saturday, November 4
th. Classifications 4A & 3A will compete on Friday, November 10
th, and Saturday, November 11
th.
Individuals and relay teams all became eligible to compete in their respective events at the State Championships after qualifying and advancing through both the District and Regional levels that have taken place over the last two weeks. In Class 2A competition of note, Bishop Kenny (Jacksonville) boys are the reigning back-to-back state champions after claiming their third overall team title at the 2022 event. On the girls side, the path has been paved for a new champion to break through in 2023, as Pine Crest (Fort Lauderdale) - who is the defending state champion - will be competing in Class 1A in 2023. In Class 1A competition, Bolles (Jacksonville) extended their state leading overall championships for both genders back in 2022, and will be seeking repeat performances again this year. On the boy’s side, the Bulldogs have a 35 year consecutive streak on the line dating back to 1988, a complement to their state leading 45 overall team championships. On the girl’s side, the Bulldogs who have been similarly as dominant with an active streak of 32 consecutive titles dating back to 1991, have a state leading 36 overall team championships. The girls will be challenged again by multiple teams, including the formerly mentioned Pine Crest Panthers, who are now competing in Class 1A after winning back-to-back champions in Class 2A. With a strong contingent of athletes qualified for both Bolles squads, as well as the Pine Crest girls again this year, they all pose competitive tests to their opponents at this weekend’s event.
The championship event is setup so each classification will compete on their own day in a multi-session format. The morning session will consist of the preliminary qualifying events, with the Finals tentatively scheduled to begin at 5:30 pm each evening. Tickets are currently on sale and being sold per session through
GoFan for an advanced purchase rate of $13.00, and a day of price of $16.00. An all-day pass is also available with parking already included in each ticket of admission. For the complete event schedule, results, and facility information, please see the information below or visit the
