GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Partnering with
Kissimmee Sports for a decade, the 2024 Florida High School Individual Bracketed Tournament (IBT) Wrestling State Championships are slated to take place this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (February 29
th – March 2
nd) at Kissimmee’s
Osceola Heritage Park’s - Silver Spurs Arena. Once again, the 2024 IBT Wrestling State Championships will include both boys’ and girls’ competition.
All participating wrestlers descending on Kissimmee became eligible to compete in their respective weight class, through a qualification process that has spanned the last few weeks at both their District and Regional events. In addition to crowning individual state champions for each classification in each weight class, overall team championships will be awarded at the event’s conclusion as well.
Some items of note heading into competition, on the boys’ side in Class 3A, South Dade (Homestead), the current Duals state champion, have won ten straight IBT championships and currently sit in second behind Brandon all time for the most IBT state championships all time in the state’s history. The Buccaneers currently sit at eighteen overall and will be seeking their nineteenth IBT title this year. Just like South Dade, Lake Gibson in Class 2A will seek to continue their success off the 2024 Dual Championships, as well as last year’s IBT title to claim their school’s fifth overall title. On the girls’ side, this will be the third year of FHSAA state series competition. Each of the previous two seasons yielded new state champions, so Matanzas (Palm Coast) will seek to become the first repeat champion in the history of girls competition in FHSAA history.
Structured as a three-day event, action will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, 9:15 a.m. on Friday and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. The individual finals, which are the culmination of the weekend event, are tentatively scheduled to begin at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. For a complete schedule, where to watch,
