GAINESVILLE, Fla. – For the thirtieth consecutive season, the state's strongest girls’ basketball teams and their accompanying fans, will descend upon the City of Lakeland this week and Jenkins Arena at the
RP Funding Center. The familiar site will once again play host to the 2023 Florida High School Girls Basketball State Championships.
Built within a final four style format, this four-day championship event will consist of both semifinal and championship title games over
seven classifications (1A-7A). To qualify for their respective state championship games on Friday and Saturday, teams will compete in semifinal matchups earlier in the week.
Of the week's competing teams, six are making return appearances to Lakeland to defend their 2022 championships. Ponce de Leon, Miami Christian, Lake Highland Prep (Orlando), American Heritage (Plantation), St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale), and Dr. Phillips (Orlando) will all be hoping for repeat performances this year - with American Heritage vying for a dominating sixth championship in a row. Not far behind, Lake Highland Prep will be seeking their fourth championship in a row, while St. Thomas Aquinas, Miami Christian, and Ponce De Leon all seek a third straight championship this year.
Additional items of note include several schools attempting to climb their way up the state record book in overall titles. Lake Highland Prep (six overall titles) sit in a tie for fifth place overall while American Heritage, Ponce de Leon, and Dr. Phillips all come in at ninth overall with five overall titles.
Tickets are currently on sale and available through the
RP Funding Center Box Office for an advanced purchase rate of $10.00 per day, and a day of price of $13.00. For a complete schedule, along with state series brackets as well as additional event information, please see below or visit the
