2025 Football State Championships: Know Before You Go

Presented by Central Florida Expressway

MIAMI, Fla. – The Drive to 305 football playoffs will conclude this week in Miami for Classes 1A-7A. The 2025 Florida High School Football State Championship Event will take place at South Dade Kia Field at Pitbull Stadium in Miami on the campus of Florida International University. This will mark the second consecutive year and third overall that the Football State Championships have been played on the south Florida campus. The event will kickoff on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. with the Class 2A Championship at 7:30 p.m., with remaining games to be played at 12:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday (all times are EST).

With five returning champions back from 2024, there will be multiple story lines to follow in this championship week’s slate of games, including three powerhouse rematches. Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood), Miami Northwestern, American Heritage (Plantation), St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale) and West Boca Raton all return to title games in hopes of repeat performances.

The 2025 Championships gets started right away in Class 2A on Wednesday night under the lights with a fresh classification matchup between Bolles (Jacksonville) and Cardinal Mooney (Sarasota). The Bulldogs of Bolles, Florida’s second most decorated football program, will compete for a state title for the first time since 2020 - hoping to finally get over the hump after a five-game title game streak with a runners up finish. Their Cougar opponents will return to the state championship after most recently qualifying and winning the Class 1S (former Suburban) title back in 2023. Bolles seeks their twelfth overall state championship, while Cardinal Mooney will seek its school’s third.

Thursday’s state title games will square two former champions, feature three of the state’s top four most storied football programs, and feature a rematch of the 2024 title game in Class 5A. In the day’s matinee, the Chaminade Madonna Lions will look to repeat as Class 1A State Champions. They match up against the Cardinal Newman (West Palm Beach) Crusaders, who will be making their first ever title game appearance. The Crusaders tall task will be to the tame the dominant Lions who will be seeking their fifth straight state championship and tenth overall. The Class 5A evening matchup will be a rematch of the 2024 Class 5A State Championship game between the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders and the Lakeland Dreadnaughts. Seeking their seventh straight title in as many appearances, and state leading seventeenth overall, the Raiders will look for a repeat performance from 2024 where they stymied the Dreadnaughts in a shutout victory. Lakeland will be seeking revenge, as they are participating in their fourth straight title game, and are seeking their tenth overall championship.

The Friday matchups will mirror Thursday, as it will also have three teams returning from the 2024 championship event, as well as a rematch in the Class 3A title game. In the afternoon, the West Broward (Pembroke Pines) Bobcats will participate in their first ever state championship game against defending Class 6A champion the West Boca Raton Bulls. The Bulls claimed their school’s first football state championship in 2024. In the evening matchup, the Miami Northwestern Bulls will square off against the Raines (Jacksonville) Vikings for the second straight season. Coming off an impressive performance to cap the 2024 season, the Bulls will seek a repeat performance in pursuit of their eighth overall state championship. The Vikings meanwhile look to stand in their way and avenge their season ending loss to claim their school's fourth football state title.

Saturday will also look like the preceding days, with three squads returning to the championship event in Miami. However, the day’s only rematch will get underway in the penultimate game of the week - the afternoon Class 4A matinee between the American Heritage Patriots and Jones (Orlando) Tigers. After a back-and-forth affair in 2024, the Patriots were able to pull away in the end to claim the school’s fifth overall state title. The Tigers will seek revenge this year to claim that elusive state championship, in what will be the school’s third ever attempt. The 2025 Florida High School Football season will then conclude with our Class 7A matchup. This classification features the Lake Mary Rams and Vero Beach Indians, who will each be making their school’s second ever championship games. In their only other appearance back in 1981, the Indians secured their school’s only state title to date, while the Rams are making their second straight championship game. The Rams fell to another set of Indians (the Venice Indians) in 2024 - but avenged that loss in this year’s state semifinal game to secure their place in Miami.
